One of the first photography club sessions I did was a 'scavenger hunt'. This is a fun activity for children to start looking at what is around them and to get them snapping! The list of items could be random or have a theme, but it will be better if the location of the hunt is known. Some of the items that might be on the list are:

  • A reflection
  • Flowers/plants
  • A path
  • Part of a building
  • A landscape
  • Footprints in dirt
  • Something red (or any colour)
  • Something square (or round etc.)
  • Something sharp
  • Something smaller than a mouse
  • An object from an unusual angle
  • A shadow

  • For more advanced users, some of the items on the list could be photography techniques rather than objects, for example:

  • Shallow depth of field
  • Leading lines
  • Framing
  • Rule of thirds
