Finding the alphabet

This project was a progression on an earlier session 'Finding patterns in the environment' and involves looking very closely indeed at objects around you. This is a very challenging exercise and to find the whole alphabet would take quite a long time. When we did this project in the photography club the students looked for shapes that represented the letters of their name as this was a more achievable objective. Even so this was very tough and required a lot of imagination and just a little bit of manipulation - for example some used twigs to make a letter they just could not find.
The images were put together digitally in a new document using photoshop. This introduced the use of the 'crop tool' and the 'place' function in photoshop. The images were all cropped to a uniform size, we used square, and saved as individual jpeg files with the file name of the letter they represented. In photoshop a new document was opened, we set the size as A4, and the individual letter files were added using the File > Place function. The 'transform tool' and 'move tool' were also used to fit the images together.
